Update ·
After Ida
Both sites ran normally through Wednesday night’s flooding. Sedgebank Road did not. A few notes on what we saw.
Both SEC1 and NWK1 operated normally through Wednesday night’s flooding, with no water inside either building and no effect on customers.
We deployed the temporary gates at both SEC1 entrances and the dock barrier at NWK1 at about 17:30 on Wednesday, when the flash flood warnings were issued, and eleven engineers and technicians stayed on site overnight. The water on Sedgebank Road south of SEC1 reached 8.2 feet NAVD 88, enough to close the road, and 8.6 feet below the floor of the halls. NWK1’s dock barrier held back about a foot of water.
Ida was a rainfall flood, not a surge, and it went where the drains could not keep up rather than where the maps said. Our thanks to the staff who stayed, and to the families who did without them for a night.
